The Tragedy that is Typhoon Pedring

This I might say is the worst flood that happened in my 28 years of staying in our barangay. Yes, we frequently suffer from floods during the monsoon season like anywhere in the low lying parts of the community but the flooding is only knee to waist high. And it usually takes place on the road not in our place, our home. But this flooding is far different from anything we have experienced. It ravaged in every house and properties that crossed its path. Not only in our community but through out our town in Calumpit and many parts of Bulacan. Our town is declared under State of Calamity because of this tragedy.

The main cause of this tragedy is Typhoon Pedring whose rains caused the major dams in the northern part of the country to mandatory spill out the water in their reservoir. The problem is they let the water out almost the same time. Adding up volume of water to the already flooded areas.

Here are some photos i have taken during the flood:

there are already flood waters in the major roads going to our community

this path is where i walk through going to our house. as you can see the flood water is almost waist deep.

i decided to go pass the flood to our house by riding a raft. the flood here is neck-high
here is some video i recorded as i rafted through this waters to get to our house

Important Facts & Statistics

If you yelled for 8 years, 7 months and 6 days you would have produced enough sound energy to heat one cup of coffee.
(Hardly seems worth it)

If you farted consistently for 6 years and 9 months, enough gas is produced to create the energy of an atomic bomb.

(Now that's more like it!)

The human heart creates enough pressure when it pumps out to the body to squirt blood 30 feet.

(O.M.G.!)

A pig's orgasm lasts 30 minutes.

(In my next life, I want to be a pig)

A cockroach will live nine days without its head before it starves to death. (Creepy.)

(I'm still not over the pig.)

Banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories a hour

(Don't try this at home, maybe at work)

The male praying mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initiates sex by ripping the male's head off.

("Honey, I'm home. What the...?!")

Keep Walking

The Organs of your body have their sensory touches at the bottom of your foot, if you massage these points you will find relief from aches and pains.
Note:   the heart is on the left foot.

Typically they are shown as points and arrows to show which organ it connects to.
It is indeed correct since the nerves connected to these organs terminate here.
This is covered in great detail in Acupressure studies or textbooks.
God created our body so well that he thought of even this. He made us walk so that we will always be pressing these pressure points and thus keeping the organs active at all times.

So, keep walking...

Slice and Dice the fruity fruit way

I just recently got hooked in this game where I can be a ninja.. Virtually slicing and dicing everything thrown before me, thinking of ways of how a single slash would turn into a devastating chain for a more powerful combo.. Not holding back, errrr at least if there are bombs haha! I’m talking about this highly addicting game Fruit Ninja!
According to my research it is first released last year on July 14, 2010 for Iphone and Ipad devices. The game was published by Halfbrick Studios and has been a huge hit on the iOS platform and recently it came to Android devices for free.

This game focuses on touching and swiping to complete objectives. You swipe your fingers across the screen to destroy fruits that is tossed to you. If you happen to miss many or you hit the bombs that is also thrown alongside the fruits you lose. The whole idea of the game is simple and is highly addictive. After every game there pops a ninja sensei who provides tips and random facts about different fruits.

There are three game modes:
  • Arcade: Slice as much fruit as possible with a 60 second time limit.
  • Classic: Slice as much fruit as possible under a three strikes and your out system.
  • Zen: Slice as much fruit as possible with a 90 second time limit.
Also, watch out for the Banana power-ups:
  •   Red: creates a frenzy of fruits that shoots out from both sides of the screen, it is easier to make high-slicing combo when in this mode.
  •    Blue: multiplies the number of points you get for slicing each fruit by 2.
  •   White: freezes the screen and slows the fruit rising to make It easy to target for a combo.
You can unlock items if you complete the following requirements in Sensei’s swag:

Bamboo Shoot (Blade): Play a full game of Zen Mode every day for 5 days.
Butterfly Knife (Blade): Get a combo with a Strawberry 40 times.
Disco Blade (Blade): Slice 50 Bananas.
Flame Blade (Blade): Get a combo in Zen Mode after the timer stops.
Ice Blade (Blade): Slice 20 Freeze Bananas in Arcade Mode.
Mr. Sparkle (Blade): Lose Classic Mode with a score of 42.
Old Glory (Blade): Lose Classic Mode with a score of 50.
Party Time (Blade): Slice nothing but the Strawberries in Arcade Mode.
Piano Blade (Blade): Get 100 Critical Slices.
Pixel Love (Blade): Follow Halfbrick Studios on Facebook or Twitter.
The Shadow (Blade): Get a score of 175 in Zen Mode while upside-down. Note: be sure to lock it.
Yin Yang (Background): Slice 75 Passionfruits.
Fruit Ninja (Background): Get a score of 125 in Classic Mode, and do not drop a fruit the entire time.
Great Wave (Background): Slice 150 Watermelons.
I Heart Sensei (Background): Read 3 of Sensei's Fruit Facts. Note: Basically lose 3 times.

Now I’m worried the because the screen might burn out trying to beat my girlfriends best score haha!

pleasure you're tastebuds: a Halo-halo made in heaven

Want a taste of heaven? Here’s a simple formula for that: leche flan + macapuno strips + ripe plantain banana + a hint of lime + milk + white bean paste + finely crushed ice = RAZONs halo-halo.
Before you can experience the taste, you must blend or mix it into perfection using a handy spoon. After that it will look more than a milkshake unlike the usual multi colored mix of many sweet ingredients served in restaurants. The sweetness is just perfect, I mean its not that boringly sweet.
the best halo-halo by Razon's of Guagua
As a part of her post birthday celebration, my girlfriend is “required” by her office mates for a treat. So she asked me if I could think of some place for them to go and eat. I mentioned some local restaurants but one name stood out – Razon’s of Guagua. She remembered the tasteful experience we had when we ate at their branch in our place. She could not forget the taste of the halo-halo they served to us. She said that when she close her eyes and imagine that tall glass in front of her she can still remember how its taste, somehow the savory sweetness managed to anchor in her tongue hahaha!
she'll make a good halo-halo model :)

So she wanted her office mates to experience the same she had after tasting the best halo-halo in town. So after the office hours we went to Razon’s branch located in the South Side of the Mall of Asia. For the main dish we ordered some of their best sellers: dinuguan (pork blood stew), puto (rice cake), sizzling pork sisig, pancit luglog and bulalo (cow marrow) sisig. Its like a feast in our dining area. Soon as we finished all the dish its now time for the main event. The best tasting Halo-halo in town is served. They all agree that it’s the best halo-halo they’ve ever tasted in their life :-)

On her 23rd year :)

After days of waiting, her day finally arrived. The 23rd year after she came into existence.
I’m referring to the birthday of my girlfriend Joyce which she celebrated last Sunday.
My plan is to go to their place in Makati super early, I want to personally wake her up and be the first person she see on that day.
I got up as early as 4:00 AM to get prepared and have plenty of hours to spare. After an hour of grooming and preparing the things I need for the surprise I left our house in Bulacan for the 2 hour trip.
Luckily I did not wait too long for the bus to arrive and with a snap I’m set on my way.

this is view of North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) on a lazy sunday  morning. No cars, to traffic. travelling is just a breeze :)
Time check, its almost 7am and I’m now near their place. But something is important missing in the things that I carry for her. Flowers! With plenty of time to spare I ran to the nearest flower shop to grab something special for her. Actually it is my very first time to give a girl a bouquet of flower. Imagine that? Haha! I picked the flowers which I think will suit best for her birthday. After a long ride and a quick errand to get her flowers I’m now ready to go to my princess and wake her up.

Her mother opened the door for me and I told her that I’m planning to surprise her daughter. With her permission I quickly rushed to her room. There I saw my happiness sleeping. I tiptoed gently not to cause some noise and some commotion. I kissed her on the cheek, she opened her cute eyes and smiled after that I greeted her “Happy birthday my love!” and hugged her tightly.
here is the birthday girl. just woke up :)

She grew more ecstatic  great as I gave her my presents. And then came the best part.. eating! We ate and ate and ate some more the foods her mother prepared for her.Later the afternoon we went to a spa to treat ourselves to some therapeutic and relaxing massage. Man, it was so great! We feel rejuvenated after that. The rest of the day went great until its time for me to go home.
i love you joyce anne!

Goto*? anyone? (ox meat flavored congee)

Last Saturday I went with my mom during her weekly errand to the market. Then I asked her if the eatery where we eat during my younger days still exist. She said yes of course. Then I asked her if we can go there and eat like old times. After a few minutes of walking we finally arrived to Lola Enyang’s eatery. To my surprise it still looks the same as the day we first ate in that place. My mom said that’s the first solid food I ate when I was only 3 months old haha! imagine that.
here is a shot of Lola Enyang's famous goto best with lumpia or rice cake
Although the Lola Enyang is long dead, her family continued the recipe for the best tasting goto (ox meat congee) for me.

facts:
from the Chinese gu to (ox stomach)
The traditional meat used in goto is ox tripe. Ginger is another common ingredient.
Related Filipino dishes are lugaw (general term for congee) and arroz caldo(chicken rice porridge).

Giant Croc caught in Agusan Marsh, Phillipines

I cant believe what I saw in the news last night, I thought I was watching some animatronic creature used in films. But its true, it maybe the worlds largest crocodile caught alive. The Croc is 21 feet (6.4 meters) and weighs about 1,075 kilograms (2,370 pounds).

The croc was hunted for almost three weeks. It has been reportedly eaten a fisherman and several carabaos. Professional trappers from Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center were given the task to track it down. The team layed down chicken, pork and even dog meat as baits in its known areas. And after escaping it hunters twice it is caught alive and placed in an eco-tourism park.

However, locals are still on the lookout for the mate of the giant crocodile that is still on the loose. Sightings of baby crocs are spotted in the area which proves that there is still another one. According to locals Mrs. Croc is more larger than the one caught (Mr. Croc).

Here are some images of the the giant Croc.

The current World Record according to Guinness is a saltwater crocodile caught in Australia which is 17.97 feet (5.48 meters).
